Hartmann test of small F/# convex mirrors

چکیده
A modified Hartmann test for testing aspherical convex surfaces of F/# 1 is analyzed. We present the main differences of this test in comparison to the usual Hartmann test. Theoretical results show that the transverse aberrations yielded by a testing surface have to be measured with respect to its mean sphere. A method to determine the mean sphere is also presented. Experimental results show the feasibility of this method. 2006 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Applications of computer-generated holograms for interferometric measurement of large aspheric optics
Interferometric optical testing using computer-generated holograms (CGH’s) has proven to give highly accurate measurements of aspheric surfaces. New applications of CGH interferometry were developed to support the fabrication of the large, steep mirrors required by the next generation ground-based telescopes. A new test to certify null correctors was designed and implemented that uses small CGH...
متن کامل2 00 6 Optical measurements of phase steps in segmented mirrors - fundamental precision limits
Phase steps are an important type of wavefront aberrations generated by large telescopes with segmented mirrors. In a closed-loop correction cycle these phase steps have to be measured with the highest possible precision using natural reference stars, that is with a small number of photons. In this paper the classical Fisher information of statistics is used for calculating the Cramér-Rao bound...
متن کاملDropping Convexity for Faster Semi-definite Optimization
We study the minimization of a convex function f(X) over the set of n × n positive semi-definite matrices, but when the problem is recast as minU g(U) := f(UU >), with U ∈ Rn×r and r ≤ n. We study the performance of gradient descent on g—which we refer to as Factored Gradient Descent (Fgd)—under standard assumptions on the original function f . We provide a rule for selecting the step size and,...
متن کاملA new test for optical surfaces
For an optical system to produce the best possible images, the optical surfaces of the mirrors and lenses must be polished to the correct shape to within a fraction of the wavelength of light (in most cases, this means a few tens of nanometers). Interferometry is usually used to inspect the mirror or lens and ensure that the correct shape has been achieved. However, the equipment is expensive a...
متن کاملFunctionally closed sets and functionally convex sets in real Banach spaces
Let $X$ be a real normed space, then $C(subseteq X)$ is functionally convex (briefly, $F$-convex), if $T(C)subseteq Bbb R $ is convex for all bounded linear transformations $Tin B(X,R)$; and $K(subseteq X)$ is functionally closed (briefly, $F$-closed), if $T(K)subseteq Bbb R $ is closed for all bounded linear transformations $Tin B(X,R)$. We improve the Krein-Milman theorem ...
